Billing & payments

There is no way to become a paying customer yet. Paid checkout is not open in this preview — Pricing marks every paid tier "planned" andTerms says the same. Everything below describes how billing works for a paid account and applies to nobody today; it is published so that the rules are readable before anyone is subject to them, not because a subscription can be started. Apple is free to use, with the daily allowance on Credits & limits.

Everything to do with money — cards, invoices, cancelling — lives in the billing portal, which is Stripe's, not ours. You reach it from Usage in the app (/app/usage), from the button that readsManage billing, invoices and cancellation. It appears once you are on a paid plan.

A payment failed or the card was declined

Your plan keeps working. A failed renewal is usually an expired card, and we do not cut off a paying customer at the first retry. Stripe retries over the following days, and for as long as it is retrying you keep the allowance you are paying for.

Update the card in the billing portal — that is the whole fix, and it applies immediately. If Stripe gives up before you do, the subscription ends and the account drops to Free: your projects, checkpoints and conversations are untouched, and the daily allowance becomes the free one. Nothing is deleted for non-payment.

Where invoices and receipts are

In the billing portal, under your payment history — every invoice, with a PDF, including ones from a subscription that has since ended. We do not hold a second copy of your billing history; the portal is the record.

If you need a company name, address or VAT number on them, set it in the portal before the next invoice is issued. Stripe puts on an invoice what it knows at the moment it issues it.

Cancelling

Cancel in the billing portal. You keep the plan until the end of the period you have already paid for — cancelling on day 3 of a month does not take the allowance away on day 3. After that date the account is on Free, with everything still in it.

Extra Credits, if an account has any, are separate from a subscription and do not expire with one. They stay on the account, and they are spent only after the day's included allowance is gone. There is no way to buy them today — no plan has a credit checkout, andPricing says the same in its comparison table.

I paid, and the plan still shows the old one

Give it a few seconds and press Check again on the Usage page. Plans are applied from Stripe's own webhook rather than from the page you land on after paying — deliberately, because a person who pays and closes the tab has still bought the thing, and a person who reaches the success page by typing the URL has not. The webhook usually arrives before you get back.

If it is still wrong after a minute, that is worth reporting rather than paying again. Nothing you do on this page can double-charge you — but a second checkout could, so do not start one.

Changing plan while already on a paid one

Moving between paid tiers happens in the portal, not through a new checkout, in both directions. A second checkout would add a subscription rather than replace the running one, and you would be billed for both. The app already routes you to the portal for this; it is only worth knowing if you were about to go looking for a purchase button.

What is charged, and what is not

  • Nothing is charged before checkout completes. Starting one and closing it costs nothing, and the app says so where it happens.
  • Running out of Credits is not a charge. A request refused for lack of allowance is refused before it costs anything — seeCredits & limits.
  • A step that failed is not charged. Credits come from the compute a call actually reports, so a call that returned nothing reports nothing —Troubleshooting covers what each failure means.

A billing question a page cannot answer is worth an email:apple.labs.app@gmail.com. Include the email address on the account and roughly when the payment was — never a card number, which we neither need nor want, and which nobody at Apple can see.
